Another great site for hip hop sample sets, as well as their own compilations, and mixtapes they cosign.
Hot Hip Hop Albums

Does this really need explaining? It's all right there in the title. Plus it seems to generally be mediafire which is a plus.

Underground HipHop Album Collection Blog
http://etalonhiphop.blogspot.com/
Alright fuck that indie shit for a while. I originally wanted to do this for hip hop, so I am going to stick with what I know for a while. It's blogs like this that made me want to do this in the first place. Just a collection of old underground hip hop, mostly from the nineties, from people like Ras Kass and whatnot.

I Guess I'm Floating

I think I am going to need to acquire an indie consultant to help me run this site. Esther?
Anyway, I guess this is another indie beard site.

Seemingly another take on the hype machine idea, this is like a refined version of http://blogsearch.google.com/ I think it's probably very good remixes and the like, as it was recommended by an electro DJ friend of mine. I'll have to investigate further, but I was a little disappointed by the results that came up when I typed in "Bill Cosby".

I heart music

Isn't that cute? Another MP3 Blog focused primarily on Canadian indie. Not my thing, but it's definitely a lot of people's (in Kensington Market).

Narratives

I got out of the Toronto music scene about the time I moved to Toronto and joined a frat. For some reason I still go to stillepost four years later. Anyway, this basically seems like the MP3 blog version of Wavelength.

Juna's Addiction

Another hip hop blog site, this one seemingly more focused on positive underground ish like Murs. I am not really sure why I bookmarked it; there must have been a reason. Anyway, if you find yourself looking for Talib Kweli rarities, this might be a good place to start.

Rio Baile Funk
http://riobailefunk.blogspot.com/
Despite my persistent dickriding of Diplo, I haven't been able to get that into Baile Funk. I think it's because either the music doesn't really come in album form, that I've seen anyway. I have the same problem with dancehall. In any case, this is some baile funk DJ's blog, where he posts mixes and shit.

The Fader

Truthfully, between this and Nahright, you can find 95% of the new music I pick up for DJing. While I haven't actually bought an issue of The Fader since I got the Cam'ron issue around the time Purple Haze came out, the blog is a great source of new music, especially hip hop and dancehall. They rarely post anything that they don't emphatically like, and are really into finding new artists, so it makes finding good pop music that much easier.

Milk Crate Breaks

I've had the idea for making a music blog database for a while, but this site was the one that inspired me to actually create this page. It's got all these weird little albums, which are great whether you appreciate kitschy music, Bill Cosby, or want to use them for sampling, like I do. There is some pretty obscure stuff on here.

The Smoking Section

However, the first hip hop blog I ever went to (I think) was the Smoking Section. You can find links to sooo many albums on here, as well as entertaining interviews and discussion. There's not much else to say really. It's probably the second best hip hop blog out there.

Nahright

Honestly, if you are into hip hop and you don't go here, well, then you probably aren't that into modern hip hop. A great source of news, new music, new artists, music videos, and pretty much everything to do with new hip hop. The search function is strong, so even if you don't care about most new hip hop, just throw "a tribe called quest" or whatever into that to see what's up. Really, this is the new Source magazine, BET, and your local rap radio station rolled into one. The effect of blogs on hip hop has been enormous. Nahright is the best hip hop blog out there.

Kevin Nottingham

There are plenty of cool parts to this site, but what I'm primarily interested in are the thorough sample sets put together for hip hop records. For all the people who enjoy in hip hop in anyway, or even the people who hate the idea of sampling, these provide a great window into the history of music. Maybe it's because I love hip hop so much, but I always find the songs on these incredibly listenable.

Purpose
I decided to make a little blog for collecting all the great music blogs I find. I am into many different types of music, and often come across a wonderful blog by chance through Google Blog Search, download the track or album I wanted, then move on. Starting now, I'm going to keep track of them as well as post the ones I use regularly. Hopefully this becomes a useful tool. Ideally, this is like the communist record store in cyberheaven.
